When should fitness competitors book their photo shoot?

Don't shoot during peak week — dehydration shows.

Book 2 weeks before your competition or 1 week after for photos that show your real progress.

We work with a lot of fitness competitors who want to document everything they've built — and the most common question is always the same: when do I come in?

Most people assume peak week is the answer. You're at your absolute leanest, so that must be the moment, right?

Actually — no. And this surprises people every time.

In that final week before your competition, you're cutting so much water that your skin goes dry and weathered, your face looks sunken, your jawline gets almost too sharp. You've worked incredibly hard to get there, but the camera doesn't love what dehydration does to your skin. You end up looking depleted instead of powerful.

So here's what actually works. Two options, both valid.

Two weeks before your competition. You're not quite at peak condition yet, but you're close — and you look strong, healthy, and full. Your skin still has life in it. The photos show the work without the toll of peak week. Most of our fitness clients prefer this window.

One week after your competition. You've had a few days to start reverse dieting, your body is starting to come back, and your spray tan has faded to something that looks natural on camera. If you're proud of what you looked like on stage and want to capture that version of yourself, the week after is your window.

Neither answer is wrong. It really comes down to what you want to remember — the build, or the finish line.

Either way, you've done the hard part. We just show up and make sure the photos match the work. Link in bio to book a free call and we'll figure out the timing together.
