When is the best time to do fitness photos?
So I hear that you are competing in a fitness competition. Woo. Good for you. We have lots of fitness competitors that come in that that want to do shoots to document all the progress that they've made over the months, months and months and months and weeks of training for their competition. And one of the biggest questions we always get asked is when should I do my photo shoot to capture my progress? And a lot of people want to come in the days leading up to their competition. And during peak week you're actually a little too lean for photos. I know you never would think that there's such a thing as being too lean for photos. But what happens is in that last week you are cutting so much water and you are literally at the last part of this process. Your skin is crazy dry, it's a little weathered. You are so sunken in and your jaw line that you almost look a little sick.
So we've been telling our fitness clients to come in about two weeks before their actual competition or the week after. So what's the best idea? So there's two different trains of thoughts with that, you can come in two weeks before and granted you won't look exactly like you will leading up to the few days before the show. However, you won't look sickly, you won't have leathery skin. And then the post side of things, if you come in the week after the show, you have to a reverse diet very strategically, and you also will still have that spray tans. So if you do it about a week after, you're probably going to have a normal-ish looking tan. So there's no right or wrong answer as to when to come in. I think it's just more of a personal decision. So two weeks before or the week after your shoot is really the best time to do photos, to document your fitness progress.
